Hypnosis is a very valuable tool used by many healthcare practitioners, nurses, doctors, dentists, and therapist to help clients work through many different problems and improve skills. The nice thing about hypnosis is that the client is always in control. The title of Hypnotherapist is in the dictionary of occupational titles published by the United States Department of Labor. It is stated that the hypnotherapist induces hypnotic states in a client to increase motivation or alter behavior patterns through hypnosis. Consults with client to determine the nature of problems. Prepares the client to enter hypnotic states by explaining how hypnosis works and what the client will experience. The hypnotherapist tests subjects to determine degrees of physical and emotional suggestibility. Induces hypnotic techniques to hypnosis based on interpretation of test results and analysis of client’s problems. Clients may be trained in self-hypnosis conditioning.
Different people experience different feelings. Some may sense a heavy feeling, while others feel light and airy. Some report a tingling sensation or there can be a total void feeling of non-existence. People have reported seeing beautiful lights and visions. All sensations are usually pleasant and desirable.
Hypnosis works by relaxing the mind and body so that the subconscious mind becomes increasingly suggestible to positive suggestions. The client leaves their critical and analytical mind at home and just allows or goes with the progression of relaxation. In my practice each session is personalized to what the clients goal and desires are. The client is always in control.
Hypnosis is a state of relaxation, which is reached very quickly, easily, and naturally. The alpha state of the brain waves is the one reached through meditation and that is the primary goal. One is usually completely aware of their surroundings. In fact, it is a heightened state of awareness. One does not lose consciousness, will not divulge any information that they would not ordinarily, and can not be instructed to do anything one does not wish to do, or any thing that is inappropriate to their character.
During hypnosis a person is able to gain control by accessing the subconscious mind. The subconscious is our personal computer. When we get in touch with the subconscious mind we can then program it. The subconscious mind never sleeps and this is were all our memory, goals, autonomic nervous system responses, habits, emotions, dreams, intuitions are retained. It is so very powerful yet as simple as a bright 10 year old child. One theme and one session is all that is allowed because if you start to add too many ideas to change the subconscious mind it becomes confused and nothing is changed or retained. The subconscious mind is most receptive to positive suggestions and that is the method I use, positive suggestions.
Of the different types of hypnosis, hypnotherapy is for healing and growth where as stage hypnosis is for fun. The therapist is simply the facilitator that guides the client in the direction that the client desires to go.
